My Lord of the Rings Gown
or so i hope...
May 8, 2005
yes ... i have decided that I really really want one. i think i've wanted one for a while ... but yeah, i am going to start a page for it. just cause i can and maybe that will help me to get working on it. yay. i'm excitied. onto the ideas!

this is the basic (basic!) idea that i have for the gown. i really like the styles of Eowyn's Gown, so I am going to go off of that, the main one being her Green Gown. I am going to make an underdress as well as an overdress to get a more medieval feel and to get more practice at things. Originally I wanted to do a complete Gondorian Ladies costume, but i decided that I really dont like the styles. So, i am mixing styles with confidence that someone from Middle Earth could have actually done the same. (thanks guys!)

i've also decided that I am going to try and make my own pattern for this dress. I've been looking at those who have made her Green Gown onlune and i think that it will look nicer if i try and draft my own. i am also going to be wearing a bodice of sorts underneath .... perhaps a corded one that i will be able to use for my Ren Costumes. so i really cant work on anything until i get this thing figured out ... then comes the duct tape dressform! (well money first, but you get the picture.

I still need a two main things before i can really do anything else (well before i want to do anything else) I would like to have a color in mind as well as a certain fabric. I've looked at ACS and found some things:
colors for Gondorian clothing: greens, browns, lavender, dusty rose, blues and yellows. but i'm still at a loss for colors. not to mention fabric. i was thinking a damask or something or a velvet.

Overdress:
boat neck, long bell sleeves, long full skirt (side gores and back gores). most likely a hidden zip up the back. no opening front panel like Eowyn's Gown.
Underdress:
high neck that has a slit so it can be folded down to look like Eowyn's collar on her Green Gown. long tighter sleeves, long full skirts and i'll probably lace this part up the front. i'll wear the corded bodice over that, and then put on the over dress on top of everything. I was thinking a white/cream color for this, and i'll probably stick with cotton or something of that nature.
Cloak:
Another thing that I couldnt quite decide on ... i've put two options up anyway. I just might make both .... the first one is supposed to be like Arwen's traveling cloak (when she is riding and has her vision) and the second one is more like a civilian/ranger cloak.

And lastly, the other things that i'll need eventually:
something for trim
a belt perhaps?
boots

yes i definitely will need boots ..... if anyone knows of someone who sells boots at a fair price and you like the quality, please
let me know!

well i think that this is all for now ..... going to start some work for finals and such .... as always, i am open to any suggestions that you might have! my email is
pianoplayinggirl@yahoo.com or admin@diannaslacker.com ... either one of those two should work. well good night!!

i've finally decided a few things and felt the need to share since it takes me so long to decide things. the dress is going to be made of velvet. most likely cotton velvet. not sure about the color, i think a dark blue maybe but i definitely want a Gondorian color.

this is probably just repitition, but i need to put it in here for my sanity's sake. the gown will be like the styles of the elves/eowyn's dresses (they're kind of elvish, right?) with a medieval twist. i think. colors, as i said, will be gondorian. maybe a dark blue with silver trim and lining .... not sure. also i havent decided if i am going to make trims (would be cool ... but time consuming?) or if i am just going to buy them (i've looked at some ... and they're expensive!) either way, they are going to be gondorian. i've also looked at the trims that boromir, faramir and aragorn (coronation things) have on their clothes, and i'm considering using some of those designs.

although ... i'm not too sure about what i want this dress to be .... this needs to be seriously re-thought before i do anything else. i originally wanted this to be a more traveling dress, meaning that i wouldnt have to worry about how it wears as much. but i've also fell in love with Eowyn's Gold Coronation  Dress, and i really love the idea of a nicer court gown. but now i dont know if i want to skip this whole traveling gown and go to a court gown, or spend time later re-creating her gown, or making it with some few alterations .......... either way, it would be really cool if i could wear this (or both? - crazy idea) to Renaissance Faires and other places .......

well i am off to bed with much thinking to do ...........................

this last one was ... pointless ... and so i'm overwriting it. the color is ... dark blue cotton velvet. i am not changing it anymore. i would like to make a shift or something with long sleeves. and i think i've decided to go more like Eowyn's White Dress ... only because i like the neckline. either way ... i'll probably do trim around the neckline and maybe some around the upper arm, like on some of Arwen's Dresses. and maybe i'll splurge (is that the right spelling?) and get something nice for a belt.

i also found boots that i like online ... now i just have to save up the money ....... well thats all for now.
