Purple Renaissance - Completed 9/04 This was one of the first costumes i've ever really made for anyone else outside my family. It was fun and fairly easy, didnt take me very long, as i did all of it in a weekend at school. I used McCall's 4490 - it was very easy to put together, but i would be especially careful around the arm hole, it tends to run a little tight. While this pattern does use a lot (!!!) of fabric, the skirt is very full, and if i needed to, i might use it again. I would definitely do a mock-up, just to make sure everything fits. now that i have more experience, i would also put in eyelets or grommets or something so it laces up the back, in this one we put in a zipper instead of lacing it up. hopefully (sometime in sept) we'll have more pics of these (and many other costumes) when we all go to the PA Renaissance Faire.
Amy's Blue Renaissance Dress For this dress, I used Simplicity's 9891, view A. I dont really remember anything special about this dress, except that sewing very light thin fabric isn't the easiest thing to do. The neck cowl was a bit hard to figure out, but i think it looks right and went together correctly. i also dont ever remember taking it in (and i'm pretty sure that it needs it) so sometime when i go back to school in the fall 06 i'll have to make it a point to take this in (where it needs it) for her. and again, hopefully more pics of this sometime in the Fall 06 or the Spring 07.
Toga Ann again, for a Toga Party in the Spring Semester of 2006. Really easy, I used about 3 yards of cheap dollar fabric from WalMart. I cut 2 big rectangle pieces (height was however long Ann wanted it, width was width of fabric). Sewed along the egdes, hemed it, and it's done. The only thing left to do was to fix the top, done by either tying a knot of the fabric across one shoulder, or both shoulders, or pinning the fabric into knots so it doesn't hang down and expose things ... also fixed by wearing a bathing suit under it (which i think Ann was). We also got some rope to go around the waist. Ha, it probably cost more than the fabric. ;) Very easy - took less than 3 hours. I also made one for Aimee, but I don't have any pics of her in it ... at least I dont think I do.
