Pink Renaissance
.: complete with cloak :.
Fall 2005
(at least I think)

To be completely honest, I forget why these were made. I know I did a couple of other Ren costumes around this time, starting with
Ann's Purple dress. I think it might have been for Halloween. Anyway, its a very simple dress to make. It consists of 2 parts, the shift and the bodice.

I dug out the pattern after not finding it online ... makes me feel old! It's
SImplicity 8192. If that link doesn't work, then do a google image search for it, something should come up.

Shift:
It's long, and it's pink. It has floor-length pointed sleeves. The neckline is just gathered into bias tape of the same pink fabric. I don't think I could really say anything else about this piece - it's very straightforward.

Bodice:
Ah, the fun part. It turned out that it was too small (after, of course, I had the whole thing sewn together) so I took apart the side seams and added some fabric there. That worked well, so I went ahead and put the grommets in. Or maybe I did that before I added extra room to the sides. I bought a grommet setting thing (it resembles a hole puncher) and I would strongly advise against it in the future. This was the only time I've used it, and the grommets didnt turn out very well, if I were to be making this now, I would have hand sewn the holes, since I dont have a nice grommet setting tools (are pricey, but worth every penny for a nice one).
After that was done, we applied trim all around it. It matches so well - and it adds to it :) It laces up with some matching gold/pink cord.

Cloak:
Was an addition later in the year. Holly bought some brown cordory from home and nice soft suede-type fabric for the hood lining. I used pattern
Simplicity 5794, view C.

Gloves:

An idea we had, so we just went along with it (though it's really Holly's project). There was a good amount of the suede fabric left, and so we cut up an old pair of gloves that I had and used that as a pattern. Both of them are almost entirely hand sewn, except for the long arm seam, on one of the gloves it's definetly done by machine.
