| Lucy's Blue Camp Dress Diary |
| 5.24.06 Like I tried to say before, this whole dress is going to be made in the spirit and design of her blue camp dress. It's going to be made for an older person instead of a 10yrd old, so I'll probably shorten the gaps between her buttons on the front, and condense the emb below that. i think that's really the only thing that i will be changing ... aside from the pattern the pattern is going to change ... I've never had a ridiculously full dress with a little train before ..... and i have plenty of fabric ... so change number one! And, I if I was in any of their places, several years after I became queen, I'm sure I would want something similar to what I first wore in Narnia. So this gives me room to make the dress fuller at the bottom and make some changes. At the top there is also a picture of the fabric. I think that the colors that are showing up in the picture is close to what I'm actually seeing, except that the lighter blue fabric doesn't look so gray/light. And I apologize for the other colors, the fabric was on my bed at school ... and there aren't a lot of places to take pics. As I mentioned before, I am eventually going to put my sketches of the embroidery up, put i acutally have to get that done first. And, it would be AWESOME if I could have this done by July 15th .... and Su's ... cause then we could match :) my sister and i. If this dress isnt done by that time, then I am going to wear my other LotR/Narnian Dress ... which is mostly done. Oh, also cape! Well .... it will be a part of this outfit, but definitely not until much later .... like when this is all done .... and i have money again .... ;) 5.31.06 well even though i've been working on other things, i'm still going to update this a bit. I printed out pics a while ago and have finally made my own embroidery pattern for the design that is around Lucy's sleeve. It's not 100% accurate, but with the pics that I've been working with its the best i could do - and make it look nice. At least - it looks nice to me. There were a couple things that I couldnt quite figure out - so I sort of improvised on that stuff. Also, I did the same thing with the embroidery that is found on the back of Lucy's Dress. Not sure if I am going to put it on this dress, but it's up here anyway. For the emb all around the front of her dress - Someone from narniaweb.com made a sketch of the emb on the top front of her dress. So i'm also working on getting the emb from the bottom (like at the end of the "V"). I'll put that up here once i actually get around to sketching it out. And I am going to start working on this dress - just as soon as i can find someone to come over and make a duct tape dummy with me ;) 10.23.06 Well - it's about time that I made some progress on this dress! I had an urge to make it for Halloween this year (just for the fun of it I guess) and since I'm going to the PA Ren Faire (this past weekend and next) and figured why not make it for then. (I seriously have a problem - I've realized that I've hardly worn the same thing more than twice to anything, and when I have, I feel weird. Will have to investigate this further. I think it's just because there are so many things that I want to make.) Well that was random .. back to topic. The dress is almost done ... as of saturday, the whole thing was done, minus the hem (which is done right now) and I have to go back and re-do the sleeves, since I didn't have time to embroider them, and I "finished" at 3 am the night/morning of. So the sleeves are quite crappy. I also found better lacing, and got rid of that ridiculous pink ribbon that it is tide with now (the only thing I could find at the time). I also have to line the inside of the skirt where it is attached to the waistline cause the fabric is really thin, and it should be strengthened. (This is what happens with cheap $1 fabric :) ). Ha, and I still haven't gotten a dress form. It's on my Christmas list (just saw that in the above post). As for the embroidery around the neckline, because of time issues, I didn't have time to go and sketch something that looked decent for the bottom part of the "v" so I left it blank. I could always go back and do it later, as the harder part is done. And, I didn't end up putting emb. on the back neckline ... I think also because of time. Pattern - didnt use one, just sort of looked at made dresses that came out wonderfully, and sort of followed the same pattern (I'll explain more later when I can think straight?). The color of the dress looks closest to the brighter pics, the other one is up there cause I think you can see the emb the best. The emb .... I think that it could have been better (I see many many crooked stiches, but others seem to like it, so I guess its all good.) So there are some pics, the last one is from the end of the day ... I am going to add about 2" to the sleeves, so they come down longer and look more like Lucy's. The other pic is from when I got that huge skirt attached ... and wasted like 30 minutes walking around with a crazy train. After this weekend though, I have cut the majority of the train off, since it really just got in the way, and it just wasn't practical at all. It's all good - I will live. I think that there is still a little train, I cut and hemmed it tonight - I'll try it on again once the sleeves are done and on :). Saturday it was really cold. Next Sunday - it's supposed to be ever colder ... so in addition to really finishing this up, I'm going to try and make a scarf or something to keep my neck warm. And I really wish I had money for a nice warm wool cloak ... my cotton one helps a ton, but ... you know. Oh well. Umm ... well I think that this is about it for now ... if I think of anything I probably won't update until later .... ;) |
